Heidi Klum's Halloween party saw stars including Mariah Carey, Tom Kaulitz, JVN, Antoni Porowski and Neil Patrick Harris dress up

Pictures of Heidi Klum's impressively horrifying costume from her annual Halloween party in New York are everywhere this morning - though a number of her guests also nailed the fancy dress theme.

Beyond the party’s magnanimous gory host, other stars in attendance included her husband Tom Kaulitz, Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka, Mariah Carey, Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness and Dylan Sprouse.

Klum was the undead belle of the ball, wearing full body prosthetics which took nearly 13 hours to put together. Dressed as an alien experiment, she went around the party terrifying anyone brave enough to come near - flashing exposed fake intestines and brains and a 'spine' hammered with metal tubing and spikes.

Her new husband Tom Kaulitz arrived in a complimentary (but less horrifying) costume, as an astronaut who had presumably been mauled by Klum. Wearing the warmest costume of the night, Kaulitz's costume featured a helmet that had been smashed in and a full space suit covered in fake blood.

They were accompanied by Kaulitz’s brother and fellow Tokio Hotel band member Bill, who towered above them as a character from Maleficent 2: Mistress of Evil with wings and head spikes.

There were many couples’ costumes on the night, including Mariah Carey and her boyfriend Bryan Tanaka who came as 80s rockers. Carey sported a spiky wig, leather and chain bra and carried around a neon green guitar.

She and Klum were seen embracing throughout the night, though it looked like Klum’s prosthetics made it slightly difficult for Carey to get close.

Elsa Hosk took the cake for most niche pop culture reference, as she attended as Natalie Portman’s character from Closer in a pink wig, fringed bra and garter filled with one dollar bills.

Fellow model Martha Hunt donned a vibrant orange wig as LeeLoo from the Fifth Element.

One of the shadiest costumes of the night came from Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski, who attended with Kevin Harrington as zombie Blockbuster employees.

Draped in spiderwebs and video tape necklaces, the looks were an homage to the movie rental chain that went defunct - thanks in part to competition from Porowski’s network Netflix.

His coworker Jonathan Van Ness also attended in a tiger costume, which featured furry ears and a tail (still more believable than anything from Taylor Swift’s upcoming Cats movie.)

Model Anok Yai was statuesque in a latex outfit covered in metal rings. Her beauty look was the star of the show, as she chose a striking purple and blue eyeshadow look with piercing cyan eyes.

Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka found a babysitter for the night and dressed as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen; wearing all black oversized garments and blonde wigs.

Although Stormi Webster may have dressed as her mother Kylie Jenner first, Benito Skinner and Terrence O’Connor took things to the next level as Kylie and her sister Kendall Jenner. Paying homage to their dramatic Met Gala outfits, they wore convincing knock offs of the pair’s Versace gowns.

The Suite Life’s Dylan Sprouse and his model girlfriend Barbara Palvin wore the most comfortable costumes of the night, choosing to go as San and Ashitaka from the Studio Ghibli film Princess Mononoke.

The superhero costumes were also out in full force last night, with Jamie McCarthy paying homage to Joaquin Phoenix’s recent rendition as the Joker. He attended with Megan Thompson, who stuck to the DC universe as well and wore a zombie Wonder Woman costume.

The Blonds came in retro Batman and Catwoman costumes, nailing Michelle Pfeiffer’s crisp make-up look with a bright red lip.

Vintage Hollywood stars were also alive and well on the night, as Camille Kostek chose an all-white look paired with perfectly coiffed hair as Marilyn Monroe.

There have been a few Audrey Hepburns around this Halloween, with the likes of Kate Beckinsale giving Holly Golightly a go, but Georgia Fowler’s was just a touch more charming as she carried around a coffee cup and brown pastry bag.

One hilarious couples’ costume came from designer Joseph Altuzarra and Seth Weissman, who came as 'leather daddies' with aviators and moustaches.

Halima Aden’s Maleficent look gave Angelina a run for her money, as she arrived wearing the character’s signature horns and a striking feather collar over billowing metallic robes.

Other stars to attend also included singer Maluma, Rachel Hilbert, David Hirsch, Questlove, Ice-T and Coco Austin.

Klum’s party marked the twentieth anniversary of the bash. The 2019 party was held at Cathedrale club at the Moxy in New York.

Meanwhile in London, Liam Payne, Maya Jama and Martin Freeman hit another seasonal favourite: Jonathan Ross’ Halloween party.
