Hector O hEochagain visits volunteers from Clondalkin Helping Homeless in new video

Clondalkin Helping Homeless has featured in Tesco Community Fund's latest video presented by Hector O' Heochagain.

In the video, the volunteers showed Hector how they used Tesco's funding to provide food and other essentials for Dublin's homeless. Hector met with founder, Cllr Francis Timmons and thanked him for the fantastic work the group do in the community.

The new 'One in a Million' series looks at local heroes who go the extra mile in towns around the country. Clondalkin Helping Homeless also provides food, furniture and clothing for people facing homelessness.

Francis said: "We have a lot of families that are finding it really difficult at the minute to manage. We try to get them enough food to last them the week so that no child has to go to bed hungry.

"Tesco have been really supportive, nearly right from the start. We can get donations of food but with the levels of people that we are helping we wouldn't have enough to give people a regular decent supply of food.

"You have very little control over the big things in life but the small things like this you can make a difference."

This year the Clondalkin group have received €3,366 in funding through the Tesco Community Fund. The supermarket's campaign is now in its eight year and they have donated over €6 million to over 21,000 local community projects nationwide.

Tesco are increasing the fund this year to one million euro and are asking people to nominate community group or good cause applications. People can be nominated in store or through the website. Each time a customer shops in a Tesco store, they can also vote for their preferred cause to receive funding using the blue tokens.
