Hector Bellerin has joined Barcelona on a free transfer, returning to the Camp Nou after over a decade.

The defender started his career in the Catalan giants’ youth ranks before joining Arsenal as a teenager and later broke into the Gunners’ first-team in 2015.

Across his ten years in north London, Bellerin won three FA Cups but fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta and spent last season on loan with Real Betis, where he won the Copa del Rey.

The Gunners posted an emotional farewell to the Spaniard on social media, pointing to the impact he had at the club both on and off the pitch.

The statement said: “For three FA Cups and 239 appearances. For the dedicated support for our local community, GayGooners and so much more.

“For understanding what it means to be a Gooner. Thank you, Hector.”

Barca, conducting a busy transfer window themselves despite a backdrop of financial uncertainty, allowed Sergino Dest to join AC Milan on a season-long loan deal and saw Bellerin as an affordable alternative at right-back late in the transfer window. He has signed a one-year deal.

Arsenal granted the 27-year-old a free transfer in exchange for a sell-on clause of any future sale, with the priority to get Bellerin’s £100k-per-week wages off the books.
