A friendly wager that Manny Machado apparently made in 2019 has not aged well, and the fan who inspired the bet recently reminded the Padres slugger about it. And no, he didn’t do so quietly.
Four years ago, a Dodgers fan could be heard heckling Machado before he stepped to the plate during a game at Dodger Stadium after Machado had left Los Angeles for San Diego to sign a massive deal worth $300 million over 10 years.
“Manny, congrats. With that big of a contract, you’ve got 10 Octobers off. Congrats,” the fan said at that 2019 game. “Come on, you could have had it all in L.A.”
Machado can be heard retorting, “I bet you my contract we’ll win a World Series before you guys do.”
The fan returned four years later asking Manny Machado to pay up

Los Angeles went on to win the World Series the very next year in 2020, and the fan did not forget. He posted a video on Sunday of himself screaming at Machado while on deck during a game this weekend at Dodger Stadium, saying, “Manny, do you remember me? You made a bet for your contact four years ago! Where’s my $300 million?”
The fan’s bio on X, formerly known as Twitter, reads “The Proud Owner of Manny Machado’s Contract.”
