Heavy snow causes disruption for commuters across Lanarkshire

Heavy snow has caused disruption for commuters across Lanarkshire this morning.

A yellow weather warning of snow is in place until 8pm tonight across the region.

Train and bus services have been affected with some roads also proving difficult for drivers.

East Kilbride to Glasgow Central services this morning were cancelled or delayed due to crew being delayed.

ScotRail say, however, the 9.57am East Kilbride to Glasgow Central due at 10.29am was due to be reinstated and run as scheduled.

There were also delays or cancellations on earlier Newton Lanark to Glasgow Central services - although this was down to train and signalling faults.

Meanwhile First Bus are warning of travel disruption due to the adverse weather conditions and are urging people to check before they travel.

The 242 is terminating at Pather Community Centre in Wishaw, the Service 266 and X11 is terminating at Newmains and buses are unable to operate to Shotts.

And the Service 227 is terminating at Woodfoot Road, buses are unable to operate to Sherry Drive in Hamilton.

While Traffic Scotland are warning of adverse driving conditions which continue to affect much of the central belt, with the M80 at Haggs seeing particularly heavy snowfall they reported.

The road into East Kilbride at Castlemilk saw gridlock with traffic stuck on the hill and the roads around Hamilton Technology Park proved treacherous with reports of lorries becoming stuck and accidents.
