'Heavy smoke' in Glasgow as 999 crews battle fire at recycling centre

MULTIPLE roads have been closed as emergency services are currently at the scene of a fire at a Glasgow recycling centre.

Nuneaton Street has been shut to traffic as police are as they are assisting firefighters at the NWH Waste Collection site in the East End.

The fire has been burning for several hours and there is heavy smoke in the area as a result.

The Clyde Gateway is also closed to all traffic between the Emirates Arena and London Road.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.35am on Wednesday, February 8 to reports of a bin fire at Nuneaton Street, Glasgow.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised one appliance to the scene and on arrival firefighters found a commercial building well alight.

“A further five appliances and specialist resources were mobilised. Crews remain on the scene as they work to make the area safe. No casualties have been reported.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
