Four of the highest emitting manufacturers in NSW are transitioning into low carbon facilities to cut 10 million tonnes of carbon annually as the government pushes for net zero emissions by 2050.
Energy Minister Matt Kean said cement producer Boral, chemical manufacturer Orica, metal manufacturer Tomago Aluminium and starch manufacturer Manildra Group were working with the government to slash their emissions.
"Accelerating the deployment of deep decarbonisation technology will help industry prosper in a net zero economy and open up new markets for NSW-made products," Mr Kean said on Thursday.
He said the four companies emitted more than 10 million tonnes of carbon a year - equivalent to the emissions of more than 3.5 million cars.
"Helping them slash emissions is critical to the success of reaching our targets of 70 per cent emissions reduction by 2035 and net zero by 2050,'' Mr Kean said.
The Transformative Industry Projects will contribute $855,000 in grants and these will be matched from each of the four companies to support other firms adapt their technologies.
It is part of the government's $305 million in grants to help manufacturing and mining industries move towards a low-carbon economy.
