Heavy emergency services presence as Cardiff road closed

A large emergency services team attended a central Cardiff road after a woman lost consciousness. An ambulance, three rapid response cars and a police van were called on Wednesday night to Fitzhamon Embankment.

Welsh Ambulance Service closed the road at the junction with Tudor Street at around 10.10pm, said a Cardiff council worker on the scene. Paramedics took the woman into the ambulance for treatment.

The road reopened at about 10.39pm as the ambulance service vehicles moved from the middle of the junction to the side of the road so traffic could pass. A police van arrived on the scene at 10.43pm as the patient continued to receive treatment in the ambulance.

In an update on Thursday, a Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called last night (August 17) at approximately 9.47pm to reports of a medical emergency on Fitzhamon Embankment in Cardiff. We sent three rapid response vehicles and one emergency ambulance to the scene. One patient was conveyed to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, for further treatment."

A South Wales Police spokesperson added: "At around 10.25pm last night officers were called to assist the ambulance service who were attended a medical incident on the Taff Embankment. However, on arrival assistance was no longer required."
