For most people nationwide, the weekend was a washout. While we might have managed some pockets of sunshine in parts, the rain poured down fairly consistently.
With June now halfway through, many will be looking to when the sunny weather might return. Although temperatures will remain high over the next week, Met Eireann has said the rain and thunder are set to continue.
The popular Twitter page, Carlow Weather, run by Alan O’Reilly, has predicted an unsettled week ahead with some heavy showers possible but less risk of thunderstorms but added there is the possibility of warmer weather by the weekend.

It posted: “A mixed few days ahead with scattered showers and sunny spells. Some heavy showers possible but less risk of thunderstorms compared to the last few days.
“Temperatures up to low 20s. Very uncertain after Friday but still a risk of much warmer weather coming for weekend.”
According to Met Éireann, the national forecaster, overall, it will be relatively warm with light breezes, however, the weather will also be unsettled with further thunderstorms during the first half of the week bringing localised flooding.
Here is Met Eireann’s forecast for the week ahead:
Monday
Monday will be a showery day with misty conditions in places too. Scattered showers in the morning will become more widespread in the afternoon and evening, some turning heavy with thunderstorms and localised flooding possible.
Highest temperatures of 18C to 22C in light to moderate southwest breezes.
Showers will become fewer in the evening, except for the south and west coasts. Mild with lowest temperatures of 11C to 14C in just light southerly breezes. Misty in parts too, especially along the south coast,
Tuesday
A cloudy and showery day with showers turning heavier into the afternoon and evening. Some thunderstorms are likely.
Highest temperatures of 18C to 21C in just light southerly breezes. Misty in parts again too.
Showers will become more isolated in the evening with drier and clearer conditions developing. Some misty conditions in parts too though. Lowest temperatures of 10C to 14C in just light southwest breezes.
Wednesday
Sunny spells and scattered showers with a few heavy ones possible later across the north and east. Highest temperatures of 18C to 22C with just light westerly breezes.
Thursday
Sunny spells and well-scattered showers. Warm in sunshine with highest temperatures of 19C to 24C in light southerly breezes.
Friday
Cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain. Highest temperatures of 18C to 21C.
