The leading bookmaker, Coral, has made odds on at 1-2 for the whole of the UK to be in a heatwave, with it tipped to be one of the hottest summers ever. The book maker has also slashed odds on temperatures to soar past the previous record, 38.7C, with them sitting at 4-5 for it to happen.
Speaking about the heatwave, Coral's John Hill said:
“We look set for a record-breaking summer this year. Our odds suggest temperatures could even climb to as high as 40C. Our betting suggests things are going to get even hotter this summer, and by the time it is over, it will be the hottest summer the UK has ever had.
“We make it odds-on for the highest ever UK temperature of 38.7C to be broken, while temperatures may even climb to as high as 40C.
“With dry conditions expected over the next few months, the odds have also been cut on the UK imposing a hosepipe ban this summer," added Hill.
With the summer holidays in Scotland well and truly underway, the middle of July is predicted to be the point people in Scotland can expect to see some glorious sunshine according to the Met Office. Although there is still some chance of rain throughout July, most of the UK should see warm weather in spells throughout the middle of the month.
