Heating expert issues exact date people should turn off their heating as clocks go forward

As many of us are aware, energy bills have been increasing for a while now with people looking at cost cutting solutions to keep their bills down and more money in their pockets.

And whilst there are things you can do such as switching appliances off at the wall when not in use and reducing how long you use the shower for, experts have been recommending other things people should try.

Boiler experts at BOXT have said that there is a day that you should turn your central heating off - and it's right around the corner with the date being this week.

According to the experts, you should turn your heating off on March 26. This falls on a Sunday and is just days away.

Discussing the advice, Andy Kerr, Founder at BOXT, said: "Spring is just around the corner, and as the weather gradually begins to turn warmer, more and more people are keeping their heating on for shorter amounts of time.

“With the cost of living rising across the country, many Brits will be feeling the financial squeeze. While many may be waiting for the temperature to change, there is no single temperature at which you should turn your heating off, however, many aim for the time when clocks go forward, which this year falls on the 26th of March.

“It is also important to note that leaving your heating on low all day does not reduce your heating bills! Only having the heating on when you need it is the best way to save energy. Investing in a smart thermostat" adding that it could save you up to 10 per cent annually on your energy bills - depending on which one you use.

He continued: "The smart technology learns from your habits to build a schedule that works perfectly for your household, ensuring your boiler is operating as efficiently as possible.

"With energy bills rising there are a few more things you can do to help keep your home warm, and save money on your energy bills."
