England captain Heather Knight will remain on the sidelines for at least the next three months after undergoing surgery on the injury that has troubled her this summer.

Knight has not played since July 21 due to a hip problem that ruled her out of the Commonwealth Games and The Hundred.

She faces an extended spell on the sidelines now, after going under the knife. She will miss England’s series against India next month, which includes a rare appearance for the women’s national team at Lord’s, then the Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia.

Knight took to Twitter to reveal the news on Friday.

“I’ve had a little clean out of my hip to get me back and running soon,” she said. “Unfortunately it rules me out of the India series and the WBBL, but I’m aiming to be back by the end of the year. Time to make the most of a bit of time away and bring on the rehab.”

In her absence, England will continue to be captained by all-rounder Nat Sciver.
