The Adelaide Strikers will chase a target of 167 runs for victory at the Gabba after a half-century from Sam Billings propelled the Brisbane Heat to a competitive total.
Billings, who was dropped on 22 and 42, bludgeoned 27 runs, including three sixes, off the 19th over bowled by Peter Siddle to help his side to 9-166 from 20 overs.
Billings eventually departed for 79 off 48 deliveries, his innings including six fours and four maximums.
Max Bryant was the next-best batter for the Heat, with his 46 runs including eight fours.
Adelaide's Matt Short, the competition's leading run-scorer, claimed career-best figures of 3-14 from his three overs of offspin.
Quick Henry Thornton, the BBL's current leading wicket-taker, finished with 1-37 to take his season tally to 12 wickets.
Wes Agar (3-38) was expensive early but fought back with three wickets in the final over of the innings.
The match is former Heat skipper Chris Lynn's first meeting with his old side since signing with Adelaide.
Lynn was the face of the Brisbane franchise for 11 seasons, but was advised he would not be offered a new contract in May this year.
"I'm pretty relaxed to be honest," Lynn told Fox Cricket shortly before the start of play.
"It's nice to be back at the Gabba, I've got a lot of mates and family here, but it's just another game of cricket."
Lynn was in the action in the second over, taking the easiest of catches at backward point after Short drew a false shot from Colin Munro (one) with his first delivery.
The Heat were in trouble at 2-12 when Short struck again with the last ball of the second over, with Matthew Renshaw (two) caught in the deep.
The unbeaten Strikers sit atop the competition table with three wins, while the last-placed Heat are still looking for their first win of the season having lost their opening two games.
