The Queen last visited Greater Manchester just over 12 months ago - including a special visit to one of the region's most iconic institutions.
The Queen is 'under medical supervision' at her Scottish home in Balmoral, Buckingham Palace have said on Thursday afternoon. All senior members of the Royal Family have travelled to Scotland to be with her.
Images show the last time Queen Elizabeth II was in our region, when she visited Salford and Manchester Cathedral. On July 8 2021, Her Majesty was guided around the Coronation Street set in Media City to celebrate the shows 60th anniversary.

That was the first time since 1982 that she had stepped foot on the famous cobbles. Pictures from the day showed cast members William Roache, Barbara Knox, Sue Nicholls and Helen Worth lined up outside the Rovers Return pub to meet her.
She was greeted by other groups of cast and crew as she made her way through the set, who explained how working practices on the long running soap opera were adapted to allow filming to continue during the pandemic, before visiting the Rovers Return.
On the same day, The Queen also visited Manchester Cathedral, where she met community groups from across the North West, including representatives from youth groups, carers, businesses and charity volunteers to hear how they have supported those affected by the pandemic.
A Palace spokesperson said on Thursday: “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”
The Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge and the Duchess of Cornwall have travelled to Balmoral, Clarence House said.
The nation’s longest-reigning monarch has ongoing mobility issues and looked bright but frail and used a walking stick during Tuesday’s historic audience with Ms Truss, which followed a visit from outgoing prime minister Boris Johnson as he tendered his resignation.
