Hearts transfer interest in Wolves midfielder confirmed but move hinges on key Molineux factor

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson has joined Aberdeen counterpart Jim Goodwin in confirming interest in signing Connor Ronan from Wolves.

The Irish midfielder worked with the latter on loan at St Mirren last season as he enjoyed a fantastic breakthrough Premiership campaign. Now the Jambos and Dons will compete to see if they can entice him over the border again, although he is still under contract at Molineux.

Goodwin said of Ronan recently: “I have been linked with pretty much every player I worked with at St Mirren from February until now, and I’m not going to deny the fact I have a lot of admiration for Connor Ronan as a player and as a person. Connor is a terrific player and has no end of admirers looking at him just now I would imagine. I’m not going to deny the fact that I would love to work with him again.”

Neilson's voice has also been added to this, but he has raised a point of concern. It's reported that a fee of £500,000 will put both clubs off.

Wolves manager Bruno Lage wants a look at the midfielder contracted until 2024 in pre-season and the Hearts boss says they are waiting to see what happens there first.

He said: “He obviously did very well at St Mirren last year. He is one of a number of guys we are looking at right at the moment. He is a Wolves player and it will come down to what they want to do."

Hearts rounded off their pre-season camp in Spain with a 4-0 win over FC Europa. Alan Forrest grabbed a double alongside Gary Mackay-Steven and Euan Henderson goals.
