Hearts submit plans for swish 22-bed Edinburgh hotel to be built inside main stand

Heart of Midlothian FC have put forward plans to create a new hotel inside the main stand of Tynecastle Stadium.

Submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council for consideration, the Gorgie club have shared how they plan to fit out 22 plush rooms inside the newer stand for those who are desperate to spend the night.

Run independently by the football club, proposals have detailed that the hotel would be created inside the main stand, with no new external additions to be created.

Inside however, space previously given permission to be hospitality lounges will instead be renovated and transformed into the football and general themed bedrooms.

Close to other sporting stadiums such as Murrayfield and the city centre, the club have stated they believe the site would be in high demand, with both family rooms and accessible rooms to be facilitated.

Sharing design ideas for the hotel, LRW architects gave examples of both the general and Hearts themed rooms which would be on offer, with maroon and classic quotes painted on the walls.

Closed off from the direct stadium access, the club have also stated that hotel guests would not be surrounded by passing football fans looking to get to their seats or use the hospitality facilities.

With the proposals still to be given a final decision from the council, LRW architects said in a design statement:

"The proposal seeks to add 22 bedrooms at second floorlevel within the existing building envelope. These new bedrooms will be located in an area of the second floor, which was previously granted consent for use as hospitality lounges and commercial space.

"Tynecastle Stadium is located in the heart of Gorgie, between the North BritishDistillery and the new Tynecastle High School. The area is adjacent to a number of sporting and tourist attractions which generates a large demand for guest rooms. A summary of the proposal is as follows:

"Second Floor:

• Add 22 new guest rooms. 4 of which to be family suites.

• Provide 2 accessible bedrooms within the scheme.• Provide a new staff rooms, linen room, refuse store, food and drink store.• Externally, the configuration of panels and glazing is to undergo minor reconfiguration with like for like materials to facilitate the guest room arrangements.

• 3No. new windows to be proposed along the North Elevation to accommodate new staff facilities.

"Roof Area:• Upgraded plant equipment on the roof of the main stand in the existing locations."
