Hearts set for six-figure cash boost as Australia qualify for World Cup finals

Hearts could land a tidy six-figure cash boost after Australia's World Cup qualification.

Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson both started as the Socceroos booked their place at Qatar 2022 after a penalty shootout win over Peru.

Graham Arnold's men will now travel to the Middle East later this year and compete in Group D alongside France, Denmark and Tunisia.

Securing a spot in the finals could mean a cash windfall for Robbie Neilson's men.

If the duo are called-up around £340,000 will be paid out from FIFA's World Cup Club Benefits Programme, which is designed to compensate clubs whose players are involved in the competition.

Cammy Devlin - also on the books at Hearts - has been touted for a call-up due to his form for the Tynecastle side, with Neilson confirming he has been close.

Should Arnold decide to include him in his travelling party, a further £170,000 would be paid out.

A percentage of the cash would go to previous clubs represented by the Hearts stars, but the capital side could would still collect a nice boost to the bank balance.

Money is paid out regardless if the players feature in matches at the tournament or not and the figure would increase further should Australia continue beyond the group stages in Qatar.

The FIFA programme pays clubs just over £7,000 per player for each day they spend as part of a World Cup squad.

Australia landed their spot in the finals with victory in sudden-death penalties.

Ex-Hibs star Martin Boyle missed the opening spot-kick but it wouldn't matter in the end.
