Hearts boss Robbie Neilson opens up on how Euro cash boost will be spent by club

Robbie Neilson has opened up on how Hearts will spend their Euro cash boost.

The Jambos are set to pocket upwards of £3million in guaranteed income for their participation in Europe next term.

Hearts will enter the Europa League play-off round and know going into the tie that they are guaranteed group stage football either in that competition or the Europa Conference League - should they suffer defeat in the second tier competition.

Neilson has explained that the major boost to the club funds will be used properly and while there will be an increase in the budget, it will not be huge.

The Tynecastle club have already added Alan Forrest, Kye Rowles and Lewis Neilson this summer and are keen to strengthen in the final third of the pitch.

Speaking to Edinburgh Evening News, Neilson said: “No, definitely not. There will be an increase in the budget but not huge.

“We have to use the money properly. It has to go into different areas [of the club] as well.

"Don't get me wrong, the football department is the most important one for getting players in. We know that, but we have to use it to build the club as well.

“The board have been great. I know what we need to get.

"Joe Savage [sporting director] and I have sat down to discuss targets and the kind of level we are looking at. It's now a case of trying to get our main targets.”
