Hearts 'best period' of career admits Arnaud Djoum as he returns to Scotland with Dundee United

Arnaud Djoum admits playing for Hearts was the 'best period' of his career to date so he was delighted to make a return to Scotland with Dundee United.

The former Tynecastle star put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Tannadice. He previously netted 16 goals in 129 games for the Jambos between 2015 and 2019, where he worked with United head coach Liam Fox.

He came on during the 1-1 draw at Ross County as Dundee United made it three games unbeaten and seven points from a possible nine as they continue to turn around their fortunes after a very poor start to the Premiership season. That run has lifted them off bottom spot and back in touching distance with the clubs around them. They could also reach a Hampden semi-final when they face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park later tonight.

Speaking about his time in Scotland previously, Djoum said: "I had great times at Hearts, that was the best period of my career, so when the chance came to come back to Scotland I was really happy.

"Scottish football suits me really well so I didn't have to think too hard about it.

"I was a free agent because I terminated my contract at Apollon Limassol. United wanted to see how I was physically so I came here and showed them I was ready.

"I am someone who likes to take care of my body and is always fit. I think after a few days they knew I was in good condition. I feel good physically."

New boss Liam Fox said on the capture of the former Hearts man: “I’m delighted that Arnaud has signed for us.

“I worked with him at Hearts and already knew his qualities. He’s a very talented midfielder who will give us a different option.

“He has a terrific pedigree and has been very impressive since joining us in training two weeks ago.

“He looks sharp and is determined to make an impact on Scottish football again.”
