Hearts' Andy Halliday expected 'one or two more signings' as he hails Barrie McKay

Andy Halliday admits the Hearts squad expected one or two more players in the door on transfer deadline day - but wouldn't be surprised if more recruits arrive.

Robbie Neilson admitted himself he was desperate to boost his Tynecastle ranks following the loss of Liam Boyce to a long-term injury and summer recruit Kye Rowles in the same match against St Johnstone. The double blow on top of domestic and European football to juggle left the capital men a little short but they were only able to bring in striker Stephen Humphrys on loan from Wigan on deadline day.

After hearing the comments from the Jambos boss, Halliday and Co expected more arrivals to come in the door. Zander Clark has since arrived on a free to boost the goalkeeping department and he believes the free agent market is one they could take advantage of in the near future to give the squad a real boost.

Barrie McKay joined Hearts outside a transfer window and Halliday pointed to his addition as a 'fantastic signing' and believes any success coming to Gorgie this season will come down to the huge part the former Rangers winger plays.

Form has been patchy of late with Livingston the latest team to defeat Hearts, but Halliday is not concerned and is certain they will bounce back from the poor run of results.

He told Clyde 1's Superscoreboard: "Yeah, no doubt whatsoever. I think you look at our squad and compare it to last year, obviously we lost a couple of key players but for me we've brought in some real quality.

"As players we probably did expect another one or two in the door because the manager said as much. But I think the real benefit is the fact the manager has said we're going to look to the free market and obviously we've done that by bringing in Zander Clark, we all know how good a goalkeeper he's been.

"I wouldn't be surprised if there is another one in the pipeline."

On McKay, he added: "Now we're talking about a proper player.

"He was a fantastic signing for us at the time and he's been a real key player for us over the last 18 months or so. I think any success we're going to have this year he'll be a big part of it."
