Hearts ace Lawrence Shankland in hilarious quip about his weight

Lawrence Shankland insists he'll ignore taunts about his weight and take any criticism on the chin... or chins, as he said in a self-deprecating quip.

The Heart of Midlothian captain claims he would no longer have to play football if he had received £100 for every time a chorus of 'You fat' so and so was aimed at him by rival fans.

He was on the end of some more brutal abuse from the stands at Pittodrie on Sunday, as the Jambos went down 3-2 to Aberdeen in a thrilling Scottish Premiership encounter.

Ante Palaversa scored a late winner to maintain the Dons' 13-game winning streak since Jimmy Thelin's arrival.

And after Shankland's enthusiastic celebration in front of Aberdeen fans following Blair Spittal's stunning strike, the home faithful give their former player both barrels in the closing stages of the game.

The 29-year-old is able to laugh off jibes from the crowd though, as he's been used to it his whole career.

“I get that every week," the Scotland international told Edinburgh Evening News. "If I had a hundred quid for every chorus of ‘You Fat B*****d’ then I wouldn’t be playing football anymore.

“It’s part of football. I dish it out so you need to take it on the chin – or in this case, chins.”
