Hearts hero Ryan McGowan could be about to seal a return to the Scottish Premiership at St Johnstone, according to reports.
The 32-year-old has spent the last year at Kuwait Sporting Club but is now keen to bring himself into the Australian national team eye ahead of their World Cup 2022 tilt in Qatar last this year. It's reported by The Herald that he is open to making a move back to Scotland as a way of doing this and St Johnstone 'could clinch a deal.'
McGowan hasn't been in SPFL waters for three years following a stay at Dundee on loan from Bradford City in 2019. He was promoted to the Hearts first team in 2008 and scored the fourth goal in their famous 5-1 Scottish Cup final win over Edinburgh rivals Hibs 10 years ago, remaining a firm Tynecastle favourite since. The centre-back left a year later for Shandong Taishan FC.
There's been various spells across Asia since that move but McGowan also spent a year at Dundee United after joining them in 2015.
Capped 22 times by his national team, the likes of Hearts' Kye Rowles are amongst those vying for a defensive position in Graham Arnold's winter squad.
