Heartfelt tributes to the Queen that Prince William admits he finds hard to read

A particular set of heartfelt messages paying tribute to the Queen are hard to read, Prince William has admitted.

It was at Sandringham when one royal supporter, who came to pay their respects, heard Prince William talk emotionally on Thursday about the heartfelt messages left for Her Majesty.

Mourners were offering their deepest sympathy to the Prince of Wales after the lost of his grandmother, when the 40-year-old confessed he finds reading the children's tributes "hard" to read.

The messages left have been "very moving" he told royal fans as the Prince and Princess of Wales looked at the thousands of letters and flowers left in tribute to the Queen.

He said: “It’s very moving. I find reading the notes quite hard actually, especially the children’s notes, they get me every time.”

As the couple visited the crowds to thank them for their support, the Princess of Wales reportedly said reading the messages was tough.

Fran Morgan, who was in the crowd when Kate Middleton thanked them, said: "She [Kate] said she couldn’t believe how many cards and flowers there were.

“But she also said: ‘I can’t read them all or I would cry.'”

The Princess of Wales acknowledged the crowd and shook hands with the mourners as she took the flowers of condolences during her visit.

Asked how the children were coping with the loss of their grandmother, Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and four-year-old Prince Louis, Kate reportedly said they were doing well.

Lynne, from Norfolk, told the BBC : “My daughter Jo, who has a great affinity with children and knows that Kate does as well, asked her how the children were doing.

“Kate thanked her and said they were doing well and they were being looked after at school.”

According to one royal fan in the crowd the Princes of Wales reportedly said their eldest Prince George had understood his grandmother had died - with the rest "less so".

One crowd member was overwhelmed with emotion when Prince William came over to speak to them as they started to tear up to which he said: "Don’t cry now - you’ll start me."

He told another crowd member he was beginning to understand how the Queen was everyone's grandmother.

Prince William revealed to one mourner: "I’m learning that she was everyone’s grandmother - the way people have reacted."
