Eamonn Holmes found himself in an emotional state on Tuesday as he attended the funeral of footballing legend Denis Law. The former This Morning presenter took to social media to share his heartfelt tribute to the Manchester United icon, reflecting on the life of a man he described as “magnificent.”

In a photo taken inside the service, Eamonn wrote: “Here for my friend Denis Law’s funeral. The magnificent Manchester Cathedral for a Magnificent Man. The last of The Holy Trinity.” The 65-year-old broadcaster later shared a picture of the funeral card, which featured a black-and-white image of Denis Law looking reflective. It was a moving tribute to the footballer who captured the hearts of fans worldwide.

Holmes has posted numerous tributes since the passing of Denis Law, including one marking a memorial match in the late footballer’s honor. On the day of Law’s death, Eamonn shared his thoughts: “Denis Law, the last of The Holy Trinity, has passed. Genius and mischief maker. One of my earliest jobs at BBC Northwest was to drive him home. Not sure I’ve had a job to top it. RIP The King.” His personal connection with the football legend was clear, and the grief he expressed resonated with many fans who followed his posts.

Support for Holmes poured in from followers, with one writing, “Sad day. Hope all goes well,” while another added, “Missed you lots on GB News this morning, Eamonn. God bless him and all his loved ones. Beautiful church.” A third remarked, “That explains the absence from GB News today”, reported by Hello! Magazine.

Denis Law’s career spanned decades, starting with Huddersfield Town in 1956 before making his mark at Manchester United. Over a nine-year period, he made over 300 appearances and scored 171 goals. He is perhaps most famous for being part of the “Holy Trinity” alongside Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best. The trio were instrumental in rebuilding Manchester United after the devastating Munich air disaster of 1958, which claimed the lives of several team members.

In a separate emotional post last week, Eamonn shared a photo of a piece of artwork featuring himself and his late mother, Josie, who passed away in November 2022. Holmes, who has faced significant health struggles since undergoing major back surgery, expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gift. “Thank u Annis @drawingonemotions. Lovely work made lovelier by the surprise inclusion of my late Mum Josie. Thank you,” he wrote, reflecting on a year of personal loss and poignant memories.
