The heartbroken pals of a tragic Scot who died in Loch Doon 'battled to save his life for over an hour'.
Scott Ferries, 24, died after a kayak carrying him and a friend capsized in the water near Dalmellington, East Ayrshire on Sunday.
Emergency services raced to the beauty spot after receiving reports of two men in difficulty in the water.
Scott, from Ayr, died at the scene, while the second man was checked over by paramedics but did not require further medical treatment.
His friends have now told how they tried to resuscitate him for over an hour, alongside emergency service workers, after the tragedy.
Scott was the youngest of five children, with three older brothers James Junior, Kyle and John and an older sister, Angela.
A fundraising page has now been set up to help the family cover the funeral costs for the young man described as "one in a million."
It reads: "We're looking to raise funds for the family to help with the funeral costs of Scott Ferries after his tragic and unexpected death following a Kayaking accident at Loch Doon on the 27th of March 2022.
"Friends and emergency services tried to resuscitate Scott for over an hour. Sadly, they were not able to get him back.
"We thank anyone who would like to donate to help the family with these unexpected costs in such a horrible situation."
The 24-year-old had worked as a mechanic with his father, James, at the Somerset Garage in his hometown.
His dad told how his “wonderful son,” lived for his family, friends and dog Roxy and loved spending time outdoors.
Devastated loved ones paid their respects to popular Scott on social media.
One relative commented: "Love you bro, till we meet again. Now you're higher than you could ever be down here."
Another person wrote: "Rest in paradise you amazing laddie! You were loved by everyone!
"Get the drifts going bud and keep us all safe we love you bro."
Someone else added: “Rip Scott Ferries! A great mechanic and a great person. Absolutely devastated for you and your family.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said at the time: "Officers received reports of two men in difficulty in the water at Loch Doon, Dalmellington, around 1.15pm on Sunday, March 27.
"One man died at the scene. The other man was checked over by paramedics but did not require further medical treatment.
"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances."
