Heartbroken mum admits she was 'nearly killed' by son's death

A mum said the news of her sons death “nearly killed her”.

Sharon Latham paid tribute to her son Samuel after he was found dead underneath Southport Pier on Monday. In the tribute posted to Facebook Sharon described her Samuel as “kind” and “loving”.

His body was found at 8.40am and his death is currently being treated as “unexplained”. Sharon said that her son will “be in her heart forever”.

The post said: “Samuel I know you’ve gone, but I keep thinking you walk through the door and I will wake up and be so relieved. I also know that’s not going to happen.

“I only heard the news of your passing yesterday and the shock nearly killed me.”

A Just Giving page has been set up to help pay for funeral costs. Since the page was set up over £3,000 has been raised of the £5,000 target.

Marine Way Drive was closed in both directions while police dealt with the incident on Monday and the former KGV student has been described as a “big friendly giant” with a “heart of gold”.

The post continued: “Now you are gone. You must be in peace now my boy. You deserve that. We are heartbroken that we will never see you, hear you laugh, see you smiling, singing, joking.

“So many things we will never see again. My son you will be in my heart forever as I let you go, but still hold on because I am your mother.

"You were loving and kind and a pleasure to be with. You made me laugh a lot. My first born son. I felt so blessed when you were born. None of us knows what the future holds for us, but we did our best.”
