Heartbroken family pay tribute to Scots dad-of-two killed in horror crash

A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a Scots dad-of-two killed in a horror crash in Perth and Kinross.

John Carswell Jr, 47, tragically passed away following a collision, involving his grey Porsche 911 Carrera, on the B954 between Alyth and Meigle at around 5pm on Saturday, April 29. Emergency services attended, however, John, from Arbroath, was pronounced dead at the scene.

John is survived by his parents, John and Liz, sister Tracey, brother Stuart, and his two young daughters Isla and Rowan. His family also said he was also a devoted uncle to Adam and Baillie, Nieve and Charlotte.

The well-known businessman's loved ones thanked everyone for the support they have received since his tragic death.

In a statement his family said: "We would like to express our gratitude for the overwhelming support we have received in the days following the tragedy.

"John was a well-known businessman in Arbroath.

"Away from work, he was an accomplished cyclist, boating was also a keen pursuit, as was scuba diving.

"In later years, he took up kayaking and enjoyed many tours of Scotland’s lochs and rivers with family and friends.

"Motoring was another great passion and he enjoyed restoring a number of classic cars."

Tributes have been flooding in for John who was well-known in the Arbroath community.

Posting to Facebook, John Bremner of local cycling group Angus Bike Chain CC wrote: "Moments before leaving for this morning’s club ride I was very saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic death of former ABC CC member John Carswell. John was one of those infectiously enthusiastic people who got fully stuck into whatever he was doing, be that business, bikes, boats and (sadly) cars.

"The club sends its sincere condolences to his family and many friends. He will be long remembered for his constant chat on the bike, company on the cobbles of Cheshire and Flanders and his grin and big wave as he went about the town in his van.

"Rest in Peace John, gone too soon lad."

Friend Nicholas Martin wrote: "Absolutely devastated to hear this today such a great friend taken far too soon. RIP John Carswell, you always had time for me. I'll miss our conversations when we catch up.

Michelle Martin added: "Absolutely heartbreaking, I can't believe your gone. Arbroath has lost an amazing guy who always had the biggest smile."

Police Scotland Sergeant David Farr said: “Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends at this very distressing time.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash and I would like to thank everyone for their help in responding to our earlier appeal.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2602 of 29 April, 2023."
