Having to rehome a dog is heartbreaking, but sometimes it's the kindest thing to do. There shouldn't be a stigma attached to those who have to rehome their beloved pets because they can no longer meet their needs.
In most cases, owners have been forced to make this devastating decision because they don't have the time, money or energy to keep their dog happy and healthy. When rehoming a dog, a responsible owner should drop them off at a reputable rehoming centre dedicated to securing a loving home for every dog who walks through their doors.
But, sadly, this isn't always the case as some owners simply abandoned their pets on roadsides, in woodlands, or even in "the middle of nowhere", with little to no regard for their safety.
That's exactly what happened to two dogs who started living on a railway line after being abandoned in the dangerous location by their owner.
Rescuer Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, explained how her team came across two dogs dumped on train tracks without food or water to keep them going.
She said on Facebook: "Someone dropped them off in the middle of nowhere, on these railroad tracks where it’s only industrial."
Sue went on to explain how she and another rescuer - named Mary - went out several times to try to catch the dogs - but each time, the dogs ran deeper into the train tracks in fear.
"We left food and water for them, they would go into this gated structure at night but there were two openings that they would go in and out of," she added
"Mary and I were able to secure one of the holes, we wanted to leave one open so they would go back in there during the night. Both Mary and I had nightmares all night but we knew we had to have patience and a plan."
Finally, the duo managed to capture the dogs after crawling into the gated structure - and took them home for a much-needed check up.
She said: "They will never live on a railroad track again or be dropped off to fend for themselves because they are rescued."
Commenting on their rescue, one user said: "Thank you so much for saving them! They are beautiful! It breaks my heart when I hear about people dumping their dogs."
Another user added: "Oh my goodness!! Some people should never be pet owners. You all did the right thing. May these poor pups find a loving home together."
A third user said: "These are beautiful dogs. May they find their forever home."
One more user added: "Oh my gosh, who could do this? These dogs would have been adopted in a minute if they had even tried to rehome them or solicit a rescue. People are just the worst."
