A local community in north Manchester has been left 'heartbroken' and in shock after a 14-year-old boy died and his mum was seriously injured in a 'ferocious' double stabbing.
Residents on Bednal Avenue in Miles Platting woke up this morning to find their street at the centre of a murder investigation. Officers flocked to the scene after the youngster and his mum were attacked in a house at around 9.30pm last night (Thursday).
The boy was rushed to hospital but tragically died. His mum - who is aged in her 40s - was also rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

She remains there, in a stable condition, but is now mourning the loss of her young son. The Manchester Evening News understands that he was 'trying to help her' during the horrendous attack.
The attacker remains at large. Police are hunting him down and have described him as being Asian, aged in mid 40s, of medium height and medium build.
He is believed to be known to his victims and detectives believe the incident was 'domestic'. This morning, a police cordon was in place on the residential street as investigations were carried out.
Pictures showed a police tent in place outside a house. Forensic officers and Tactical Aid Unit officers were spotted scouring the area, searching drains and grassland and taking photographs.
Officers remain at the scene this afternoon. One woman, who has friends who live just outside the cordon, told the M.E.N : "I've just woken up to hear the news. It's heartbreaking to hear, it's very upsetting.
"We've never heard of anything like this happening here before. It’s truly sad.”
Another resident, who lives nearby, said the area is usually 'very quiet' and added: "I'm shocked to hear a young boy has died."
Anyone who spots a man acting suspiciously, who matches the description of the attacker, is being urged to call 999 straight away. Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said police are 'doing all they can' to find him.
"Last night’s events are nothing short of devastating as a teenage boy has tragically lost his life and a mother is grieving in hospital after also being seriously attacked", Det Chief Insp Brennand added.
"We have trained family liaison officers dedicated to supporting her and her family at this incredibly distressing time, and we are committed to doing all we can to make sure we bring the person responsible to justice.
"This is a shocking incident for the people of Manchester to wake up to, but I do wish to stress that our enquiries so far suggest this was a contained and domestic-related incident; however, anyone that sees a man fitting our description looking suspicious should not approach him and call 999.
"This is a ferocious attack that has seen a teenage boy fatally injured and we are working at a tremendous pace to find the person that did this and to take them off the streets and into custody where we can continue to piece together what we know about this utterly tragic incident.”
