'Heartbreaking': Politicians speak out after death of teenager in Glasgow

LOCAL politicians have expressed their shock after the "heartbreaking" death of a young boy in Glasgow.

Representatives from across North Glasgow have spoken out after hearing the news that a 15-year-old boy died after being found seriously injured in Clarendon Street.

Emergency services responded to the area shortly after 10pm on Wednesday, however police said the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland revealed the death is currently being treated as suspicious and that an investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding it.

Kaukab Stewart, the MSP for Glasgow Kelvin and an SNP minister, said that her thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends.

She commented: “I'm sorry to hear of the tragic incident that resulted in a young person losing their life last night in my constituency and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this difficult time.

“I'm aware of the investigation that is being carried out by Police Scotland to establish the full circumstances, therefore, if anyone has any information regarding this incident, I would be grateful if they could share this with the police urgently.”

Meanwhile, councillor Seonad Hoy said: “I would like to express my condolences to the family of the teenage boy who has died.

“I would encourage any residents who have information which could assist with police enquiries to contact the police as soon as possible.”

Councillor Ken Andrew explained he is “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news.

He added: “As would be expected I’m shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the death of this 15-year-old lad.

“I am not able to say much more about the incident other than the police are investigating this as a suspicious death and we must give the police service the time and space to investigate this appropriately.

“My thoughts are with this lad’s family, friends and the wider Woodside community who will be heartbroken and distressed at this terrible incident.”

At a press conference held outside of Glasgow city centre police office on Thursday, officers stated that they believe the incident to have been isolated and that they cannot say if a weapon was used.

Clarendon Street remains taped off as forensics work to process the scene.

As the investigation is at a "very early stage", police are urging people who may have any information to come forward.

During this time the force is reassuring local residents and businesses that a visible police presence will be in the area.
