This is the emotion-filled moment the devastated cast of Tina Turner The Musical tell their audience that the singing icon had died.

The Simply The Best music great passed away at home in Switzerland following a long illness.

The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll "died peacefully" at the age of 83 on Wednesday as the world paid tribute.

Theatre fans attending her West End show have been discussing their experiences as the news broke last night with the production in full flow.

The cast gathered on stage during the interval to break the 'very emotional' news with the vast majority of the pack crowd totally unaware.

The audience could be heard letting out a collective gasp as they're told of Tina's death.

The Aldwych Theatre fell silent seconds after news was relayed to the thousands inside.

A video of the sad moment has been shared on TikTok.

An actor is heard tells fans: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Tina Turner has passed away today.

"Words can't express the feelings of our company, so we look at each other and we look to you, in this moment today, right now, to tell this woman's remarkable story.'"

The social media user who uploaded the clip said the cast "did her so much justice" as they battled back the tears to continue after the break.

One theatre-goer - attending with his son - said it was a 'jaw-dropping moment.'

Tina's death has devastated music fans and celebrities across the world, with social media flooded with tributes to the late singer following the announcement from her publicist on Wednesday.

The full statement confirming Tina's death reads: "Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock and Roll, has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.

"With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model. Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, USA.

"She became famous in the late 60s as the singer of the band Ike & Tina Turner Revue, but later she became successful worldwide as a solo artist.

"With her music and her inexhaustible vitality, Tina Turner thrilled millions of fans and inspired many artists of subsequent generations. Global hits like 'What's Love Got To Do With It', 'Private Dancer' and 'The Best', more than 180 million albums sold, 12 Grammy Awards and over three decades of sold-out stadium tours around the world are just part of her unique legacy.

"There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family. Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time."
