Heartbreaking moment seven dogs chase after van after being dumped in the street

The RSPCA has launched an investigation after a man was caught on CCTV dumping seven dogs out of a van and into the street.

The mixed-breed dogs "smelt of faeces and urine” when they were abandoned in broad daylight, with one Yorkie severely matted.

Officials suspect the dogs were used for breeding because of the “poor” condition they were in.

The “heartbreaking footage" shows the dogs running towards the white van as it drives away and never returns.

Inspector Vicki Taylor is appealing to the public for any information about the person responsible, the vehicle or the dogs.

A CCTV video, recorded at around 2.30pm on December 30, captured a white van pulling into Yewdale Crescent in Coventry.

The driver opens the rear doors and lets seven dogs out onto the residential street before driving off.

The distressing footage shows the dogs running towards the van as it leaves them stranded.

The seven dogs, who have been named Bertha, Nelly, Tilly, Dottie, Molly, Bob and Ginger are now receiving care at RSPCA animal rescue centres.

Some were microchipped and have been checked but the chip details are not registered.

RSPCA inspector Vicki Taylor, who is investigating for the animal welfare charity, is appealing to the public for any information about the person responsible.

She said: “The footage is really shocking. To see the poor dogs in such obvious confusion and distress as the van pulls away is heartbreaking.

“Thankfully, a member of the public spotted what had happened and contacted the police who were able to capture the dogs and bring them to our animal hospital where they are now getting the care they need.

“The dogs are a mix of different breeds, including spaniels and terriers.

“We suspect they have been used for breeding because of the condition they are in.

“All smelt of faeces and urine and most have skin issues. One Yorkie type dog was severely matted.

“Anyone who recognises the vehicle, the dogs, or the person in the footage can contact me in complete confidence, by leaving me a message on our inspector’s appeal line number on 0300 123 8018.”

The RSPCA are seeing dog abandonments rise month on month, and are asking people to Join the Rescue this winter and help bring abandoned animals to safety.
