The death of a 22-year-old carer hit and killed by a police car has been described as "tragic" as messages of support have been sent to her "heartbroken" family.
Rachael Louise Moore, 22, was hit and killed by a marked police car on Sheil Road in Kensington at around 8.10pm on Christmas Eve. Emergency crews were called to the scene and the police driver attempted CPR, but she died from her injuries.
An inquest opened yesterday, Wednesday, January 4 at the Gerard Majella Courthouse heard Ms Moore was on her way home from work after complaining of a headache. The former Liverpool Hope University student was crossing Sheil Road when she was hit by a police car responding to a "grade one emergency with blue lights and sirens".

The hearing heard the driver administered CPR but the 22-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner Andre Rebello passed his condolences onto the family before adjourning the inquest due to it being an "ongoing investigation". The inquest has been adjourned until April 25 at 2pm when a review will be held. Mr Rebello added he was waiting for toxicology and post mortem results as well as reports from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and the roads policing unit which will "take time".
Rachael's family previously paid tribute to their "cherished daughter" who will be "greatly missed by all those lives she touched". In a heartbreaking tribute, the family said: "Rachael Louise Moore aged 22, cherished daughter of Alison and Ian, sister to Ben and much-loved granddaughter of Nana Sue. Partner to Jack and caring friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched."
ECHO readers closely following the ongoing IOPC investigation have offered messages of condolences and support to Ms Moore and her family. Andy Loftus said: "Absolutely heartbreaking on every level. I'm truly heartbroken. I'm sending my condolences and prayers to each and everyone of this lovely young lady's family and friends. Just so tragic."
Angela Barr said: "Sending love to all Rachael's family and friends at this very sad time", while Moira Berry King added: "God bless her soul. Her family must be heartbroken, bless them."
Margaret Moran said: "What a lovely little face - and heartbreaking what's happened to her." Michelle Henderson also said: "My thoughts and prayers to her family but also the officer involved."
Liverpool Hope University paid tribute to the former student who studied Philosophy, Ethics and Religion before graduating last summer. The university will be having a memorial service in the coming weeks for the 22-year-old.
Hope University's Interim Vice-Chancellor, Dr Penny Haughan, said: "Everyone at Liverpool Hope University is deeply saddened by the news of Rachael’s death. She was a committed, diligent student with a bright future, who will be remembered for both her kindness and passion for social justice by the staff and students who knew her."
The IOPC has launched an investigation into Ms Moore's death and is in contact with her family. In a statement released on Tuesday, Ms Moore's family said: "We are fully supportive of the IOPC investigation and would please ask any witnesses to come forward to assist the IOPC with their inquiries into what happened to our daughter."
