Heartbreak for Lanarkshire family as young man dies in his sleep

Tributes have been paid to a popular young Blantyre man who died in his sleep.

Ryan McCarroll was discovered in his bed by his mum Annie on the morning of Tuesday, October 18.

Tragically the 27-year-old had been due to collect the keys to his new home that morning.

Celtic supporter Ryan, who has been described as a "lively soul" by his devastated brother John-Paul, was a keen fitness fan and attended the gym every day.

The factory worker's death is currently being treated as unexplained as the family await post mortem and toxicology test results.

Dozens of people paid tribute to Ryan, with his brother also saying he was "just a normal guy in his twenties," who was "outgoing" and loved to "have a laugh and party."

Ryan's cousin Jodie Thompson posted: We lost one of thee best people. I’m absolutely heartbroken and I have no words, our family will never be the same without you. Rip Cuz."

While Georgina Dunn said: "Still can't take this in my thoughts and prayers are with Annie and John-Paul McCarroll in the sad loss of son/bro at such a young age of 27. Forever young Ryan rest in eternal peace GBNF."

And family member Lesley Reilly said: "Goodnight cuz, it's never goodbye it's until wee meet again. Family utterly in pieces but as they say they only take the best and they sure did. Rest easy cuz."

Ryan's devastated brother John Paul told our sister paper the Daily Record : "He went to sleep and never woke up again.

"He was living with my mum at the time. My mum can't stay in the house anymore as she found him. She has taken it really bad.

"Ryan was going to pick up the keys to his new house that morning.

"It has been devastating and it is still a shock. I feel like I'm going to wake up and it's all been a dream."

A fundraiser, set up by Ryan's cousin Courtney Gorman, towards funeral costs has already raised over £1110.

She said: "We are all devastated by Ryans loss and were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service.

"We want to give Ryan the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes."

Ryan's funeral will be held at St Andrews Church in Blantyre and the procession will be green and gold to mark his love for Glasgow Celtic.
