School's moving tribute as five children pass away in six months

A school which has lost five pupils over the last six months is raising money for a memorial garden for the children.

Penny Field School provides education to hundreds of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Sadly, a number of the children have passed away over the past few years, including five within the last six months.

As a result, the school is now hoping to crowdfund for a memorial garden to pay tribute to the children.

This new garden will be a "peaceful and reflective space" where pupils, as well as staff and families, can remember those who have died. It will feature plants and flowers as well as seating areas.

They also aim to make the memorial garden fully accessible to allow all of the students to visit and enjoy the garden. The project will cost £15,000 and National Lottery Funding has already provided £10,000 for the garden. This means the school needs a further £5,000.

Headteacher Hannah Duffey said: "We are proud to launch this crowdfunding campaign for our new memorial garden. The designs for the memorial garden are fantastic and it will be a beautiful and peaceful space where our school community can come together to reflect, remember and honour those children we have lost.

"We hope that the wider community will join us in supporting this campaign and help us to create a beautiful and lasting tribute to these wonderful children."

The school is now encouraging local businesses, the local community and anyone else with a connection to the school to donate. They are now running a fundraising campaign for the next seven weeks. You can donate here.
