This is the heart-stopping moment a dog leaped out in front of a car on the A9 before sprinting down the busy road.
The horrifying incident unfolded near Inveralmond Roundabout in Perth on Thursday afternoon when the pooch appeared from a wooded area at the side of the carriageway. Dash-cam footage shows the dog sprint in front of the vehicle before the alert driver Karen Wooley, from Perth, slams on the breaks and swerves to avoid hitting it.
The frantic animal can then be seen running into the outside lane and up the road. Quick-thinking Karen slowly drove into the middle of the road to avoid anyone overtaking before the dog made its way back down to where its owners were waiting.
It's understood the dog escaped the incident unharmed.
Karen said: "It fair got the heart-rate up. So many folk have been complaining about the 40mph restrictions on the A9, but if I'd been going faster the outcome would have been very different. I'm just glad there wasn't anything in the outside lane.
"It raced back up to where it came from, back down to the path where its owners were. I saw the couple put a lead on it and walk away.
"When I saw the dog back on lead the couple just waved and walked on. I hope the dog is okay as I know delayed shock can be dangerous."
Karen has now warned dog walkers in the area to keep their pets on the lead.
She added: "Those riverside paths must have direct access up to the road. If you're walking those paths beside the River Almond, having your dog on lead may be wise. Dogs can spook easily."
