A group of young children narrowly escaped death after trespassing on a rail bridge as a train came in at full speed.
On Friday 20 May at around 5pm, a group of young people, whose ages and names are not known, walked onto the Humber River rail bridge, in Ontario's capital, Toronto, Canada, without permission.
A camera on the front of the train captured the terrifying moment as it sped along the tracks, passing a child standing on the other side of the rail tracks to the right.
Then, two more young people come into view – one wearing a white t-shirt, the other a blue one – with the pair seen dangerously running ahead of the train, as it makes its way down the tracks, to escape being crushed.
The child in the blue t-shirt swerves to the right, running towards a bank of trees below and eventually disappearing out of sight.
But it is the person in white who brushes closest to death as they run dangerously close to the train and are trapped between the speeding train behind them and the bridge railing on the right, making it difficult to get to safety.
The young people have not yet been identified and it is not known if any arrests have been made but they all eventually made it to safety.
Metrolinx, an Ontario government agency, tweeted: "This heart-stopping video shows the dangers of walking on railways."
The agency urgently appealed to parents and asked if anyone recognises the young people to get in touch.
According to Operation Lifesaver over 100 Canadians are seriously injured or killed each year in railway crossing or trespassing incidents.
The government agency said that the crew spotted a young person clinging to the fence on the edge of the bridge and only narrowly missed him.
"Then they saw two more young people up ahead running on the track as if they were trying to outrun the train", it continued.
"We aren't looking to be punitive, but we are very eager to speak with your children to help educate them and ensure they never ever take this kind of risk again," said Steve Weir, manager of transit safety.
