Hear'Say star Suzanne Shaw goes makeup free after ditching botox as she celebrates more than two years sober

Former Hear'Say singer Suzanne Shaw has been inspiring her followers after speaking out about going sober and reverting to a natural look after going through a 'botox phase.' The 40-year-old mum-of-two looked sensational as she went make-up free to share a message with her Instagram followers, saying "I am showing up in this reel as me!"

The star from Bury, who shot to fame on the talent show Popstars in 2001 and won a place in the chart-topping band Hear'Say, wrote: "No filters, fillers or botox or makeup contouring! Just me. As I’m sure you can see."

Suzanne, a keen runner who quit alcohol two-and-a half years ago, wowed as she went au naturel for the post wearing a grey workout vest. She added: "It is nice to get made up and feel sexy in an outfit, I do understand that, but what I’m talking about here is the pressure to live and look a certain way that can be damaging, costly and unnecessary but we will only realise it’s unnecessary if we speak about it more and be ok with who we are.

She added: "Let’s work on being enough, work on our health and well-being instead of quick fixes and disguises. Beauty is who you truly are, how you show up to the world with compassion and kindness, not a line free face or plump lips! Be you. #beyou #wellbeing #dontcompareyourself #dontconform #loveyou."

She said in a frank video that having botox only brought out her insecurities. "I went through a botox phase and all that did was highlight that I still wasn't enough," she explained.

"It made me look at other areas and self sabotage and obsess. So unhealthy. It's so worrying. It's okay to have wrinkles and not have designer stuff."

emma_sobersonic applauded: "Well said Not drinking alcohol is the best thing you can do for your skin especially as you age. "I’m 50 Botox-free and yup the wrinkles are coming… but so important to celebrate ageing because let’s face it not everyone does..."

sarahmhlangaofficial told her: "I love your heart Suzi. And I whole heartedly agree. Let’s keep opening up this honest conversation and freeing people to be happy with their natural selves." And bravebirdclub said: "Absolutely love this! Such a positive message to put out to the world."

Earlier this month a radiant Suzanne, who won the third series of the ITV skating show Dancing on Ice in 2008 and competed in the All Stars series in 2014, beamed as she celebrated 30 months without booze and said it was the best decision she had ever made. In another candid video she told fans that she had a 'temperamental relationship' with alcohol.

"When I did drink I had no off button," she said. "I would pass out after a bottle of wine in the most inappropriate of places including once at a charity event."

And Suzanne wrote: "Life is GREAT on the sober side! I know it’s hard to believe - trust me 2.5 years ago I didn’t think it was possible to have fun without it.

"However, after a few months of working on my mindset, creating a different routine, discovering new activities to focus on and navigating my way around the drinking culture, it all became a walk in the park. Today I am reaping the rewards from the best decision I have ever made for myself."
