Lanarkshire residents are invited to take part in health walks across the county to “beat the winter blues” and take part in gentle and sociable exercise.
Get Walking Lanarkshire organises free walking sessions across the county, taking place on every day of the week and with all welcome to attend.
Each lasts no longer than an hour and takes place at “a gentle pace”, with participants asked to dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
Weekly walks take place in Airdrie – from St Andrew’s Hospice on Monday plus Calderbank on alternate Saturdays and from next month, the Maggie’s Centre on Wednesday – and at Motherwell on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and in East Kilbride on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Further sessions are held in Hamilton on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday; Bellshill on Tuesday and Friday; Carluke on Monday and Friday; Coatbridge on Tuesday and Saturday; and Rutherglen on Tuesday and Friday.
Participants can also join sessions in Uddingston each Monday; Newarthill and Wishaw on Tuesday; Larkhall and Stonehouse on Wednesday; Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, Newmains and Strathaven on Thursday; Cambuslang on Friday and monthly Saturday sessions in Blantyre from April.
Organisers say: “Free health walks are a great way to beat the winter blues, catch some much-needed daylight and meet friendly folk while getting some gentle exercise.
“Being outside helps to boost your mood, and spotting the early signs of spring is really uplifting.”
