Health Minister Robin Swann tests positive for Covid-19

Northern Ireland Health Minister Robin Swann has tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.

Taking to social media, the UUP MLA shared a photo of a positive lateral flow test on February 13 with a short statement.

It read: "Unfortunately today I have tested positive for Covid-19.

"While self isolating & following public health guidance, I will continue to carry out my duties as fully as possible."

A number of people have taken to the comments to send their regards and wish the Health Minister a "speedy healthy recovery".

East Derry SDLP MLA Cara Hunter said: "Sorry to hear this, Get well soon Robin" while South Belfast MLA Paula Bradshaw replied "Hope your symptoms are mild."

The news comes after Minister Swann has written to other ministers asking for their input on lifting Covid restrictions before he makes any decisions after receiving the legal advice on Thursday.

It suggests that because the issue would be deemed significant under the ministerial code, proceeding without wider Stormont Executive approval could bring legal risk.

The Health Minister wants to hear from the other ministers by Monday.

He sought legal guidance following the resignation of First Minister Paul Givan last week, which also removed Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill from the joint office.
