A married headteacher who had an affair with the mother of a pupil has been banned from teaching. Aled Rees also made a "sexist and misogynistic" comment towards a 25-year-old teacher.
The ex-head of Ysgol Teilo Sant in Llandeilo, Wales was said to have been absent from the school for long periods of the day and has now been struck off the teacher's register, a panel found, reports Wales Online.
Reed said "that will teach you to open your legs" or words to that effect to a pregnant colleague and the man was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct by an Education Workforce Wales panel. The derogatory comment was said to have been made during a meeting in his office.
He denied these claims but a committee believed year five teacher Elen Davies was telling the truth from the remark that occurred five years ago. She said she didn't report it at the time because she thought it would be a young teacher's word against an experienced headteacher's.
Owain James, legal representative for the EWC, told the last day of the remote hearing on May 5 it was "highly unlikely Elen Davies would appear before this hearing and lie". He added that it was "a shameful comment" and said: "There is no role in a professional relationship for such language. It implies sexist and misogynistic feelings".
Mr Rees resigned from the school in January 2021 and apologised to family and colleagues for his affair and behaviour during the time at a previous hearing over his professional conduct. The daughter of the woman he had an affair with was said to be in the same class as Mr Rees' son.
A hearing heard how the headteacher left the school site often without explanation, and that the woman he was seeing called at the school so frequently that office staff recognised her phone number. The woman's husband revealed the affair to a fellow teacher shortly after March 2020 as Mr Rees told the panel he had been struggling with issues in his personal life.
Mr Rees said he had left the school without explanation as an escape because he was not coping with events in his personal life. He told the hearing he would regret what took place for the rest of his life.
Mr James told the panel that Mr Rees was absent from the school for around 30 hours over a five-month period as he "sought refuge and sanctuary in his car". Mr Rees admitted all the allegations against him with the exception of the derogatory comment made to Miss Davies.
Mr Rees' regret was noted by the committee as he was struck off the register. He cannot re-apply to join the register for a minimum of two years from May 5, 2023. Mr Rees has the right of appeal to the High Court within 28 days.
