'Heads somewhere else' - Joel Matip sends Liverpool warning ahead of title decider

Joel Matip has warned Liverpool can't let their heads be 'somewhere else' when they host Wolves in their final game of the Premier League season on Sunday.

The Reds ensured the title race goes to the final day by coming from behind to beat Southampton 2-1 on Tuesday night. Just one point separates them and Manchester City at the top of the table and they now rely on Pep Guardiola's side dropping points at home to Aston Villa in order to be crowned champions.

Liverpool, though, must take all three points from Bruno Lage's side if they're to have any hope of snatching the title from City's grasp and Matip says that must be their full focus, not what's going on at the Etihad.

He told LFC TV after the Southampton win: "We can only look at our game. It will be tough enough to play against Wolves and our full concentration is on that.

"It's the only thing we can change and that's what we are doing. It will be hard enough, if our heads are somewhere else, it will be even tougher."

Jurgen Klopp made nine changes on Tuesday night, with the likes of Joe Gomez, Takumi Minamino, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones coming into the starting line-up. Despite going a goal down early on, the Reds pulled it back to ensure they took all three points.

Matip played a huge part in the victory, scoring the winner with a header on 67 minutes. It looked like it could have come off the head of Kyle Walker-Peters, but the Cameroon international insists he doesn't care.

He added: "I think I touched it! But how it ended up there I'm not sure, I don't care to be honest!

"It was a big challenge for us, but it doesn't matter who came in without any rhythm, they showed right from the beginning the quality they have and it looked like they're always playing."
