'He will know' - Jamie Redknapp makes Liverpool claim after 15 point gap closed on Manchester United

Jamie Redknapp believes Jurgen Klopp knows how important it is for Liverpool to finish in the top four for their summer recruitment plans.

Liverpool moved a point behind Manchester United in the race for the top four with a 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday evening. Mohamed Salah’s goal was the difference between the two sides.

The Reds are understood to be in the market for at least two midfielders this summer after taking the decision to shelve their interest in Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, who would have commanded a fee in the region of £130m to be prised away from the Signal Iduna Park in the upcoming transfer window.

Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount are also understood to be in the thinking, along with a number of other options. And Redknapp believes securing Champions League football for next season will only help Liverpool bring the best talent to Anfield this summer.

“Momentum is key in sport and if you can get that in games - you can see what it means to Jurgen Klopp,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I think in April they were 12 points behind the top four and 15 behind Manchester United, now it is just a point, albeit with the two games in hand. But they will put the pressure on Manchester United with the way their form is at the moment.

“He (Klopp) will know after such a disappointing season, if he can get the top four and how important it will be for the team and attracting players, that is exactly what they need to do and he has got to keep this crowd going. It was not a vintage performance but it is a big three points.”
