'He’s turned water into wine here' Bruno Guimaraes reveals Eddie Howe talks and big project claim

Bruno Guimaraes has revealed the conversations with Eddie Howe which has given him the 'confidence' to make a successful start to life at Newcastle United. The former Lyon playmaker is also adamant the Magpies head coach is 'crucial' to the 'big project' at St James' Park due to his winning mentality.

Guimaraes was the marquee arrival in the January transfer window, and was introduced slowly into the starting eleven. The Brazil international is one of the first names on Howe's teamsheet, and has quickly established himself as a firm favourite among the Toon Army.

Guimaraes has quickly adapted to the demands of the Premier League, and the 24-year-old has performed well as both a midfield anchor and in a box-to-box role. The midfielder has detailed his early conversations with Howe, and has explained why the head coach has already turned 'water into wine' on Tyneside.

He told FourFourTwo: “I’m enjoying working with him, I really am, and not only as a coach but as a person. I admire the way he manages the whole group: he has a very human side with everyone.

"He’s turned water into wine here, leading a team that many saw as virtually relegated to the middle of the table. He’s bringing a winning mentality to the club – crucial when you have such a big project.

"Everybody has been very helpful so far, but Eddie in particular has always given me confidence. He would come to me and ask, ‘Where do you prefer to play? Here? There? OK. What’s your favourite role on the pitch? I want to help you adjust to my playing style but you have your own characteristics too – where do you think you can help me most'?"

The full interview with Bruno Guimarães appears in the new issue of FourFourTwo magazine - on sale on Wednesday, September 21.
