ITV's Lorraine left viewers unimpressed on Monday morning after spending the episode paying tribute to Phillip Schofield's television anniversary.
The This Morning host got the surprise of his life in his dressing room when Lorraine Kelly introduced a whole show celebrating his 40th work anniversary.
In a whole episode dedicated to his career, Lorraine took Phillip back through his early years surprised him with special guests and sweet messages from friends and past colleagues.
Fans of the ITV breakfast show took to social media to rant about the episode, many writing they were 'switching off' and proclaiming that Phillip's 'not dead'.
Introducing the show, Lorraine said: "Hello and welcome to a very special show, now the stage is set, the guests are all ready, so let's welcome the man himself!"
Phillip walked on set looking slightly shyer than usual.
"Oh my God," he exclaimed. "I've got my earpiece in my pocket!"
Lorraine asked: "Are you sure you're okay with this? Ahh, see, you won't be needing it, you don't know anything that's happening.
"Without giving too much away, let me tell you what's happening in the next hour, we are going to take Phillip right back to his career.
"Meet the person who is responsible for his big break, also officially the longest-serving full-time This Morning presenter and reuniting Phil with one of his favourite guests of all time, I think."
Many viewers took to Twitter as the show aired to voice their annoyance at the tribute show for Phillip.
One user slammed the episode: "He's been on tv for 40 years, he's not dead! #lorraine."
Someone else penned: "Smugfield at his smug best #lorraine "
One viewer quipped: "ItV polishing phillip schofield ego even more! Honestly he looks so SMUG #lorraine #ThisMorning #phillipschofield #ITV "
However, not everyone was unhappy about the show as some users took a stand against the barrage of Twitter hate the presenter was getting.
One tweeted: "I have actually enjoyed this hour with @Schofe.. It’s nice itv and #lorraine have celebrated his 40 years .. alot won’t agree but I’ve enjoyed it lol Congratulations Phil."
" #lorraine some horrible comments on this post re phillip. Leave him alone. If u can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all," they wrote.
Another fan defended the presenter: "People are just a***holes! I love Phil. Congratulations to him x #lorraine "
