'He's like my dad' - Alejandro Garnacho praises Manchester United teammate

Alejandro Garnacho has thanked Lisandro Martinez for being a father figure to him at Manchester United.

The 18-year-old forward enjoyed a breakthrough season at club level and could be rewarded with an international debut for Argentina later this week.

Garnacho was born in Spain and represented his homeland at youth level, but was called up to the Argentina side in March of last year as they looked to poach him ahead of his country of birth.

He is eligible to play for the South American giants through his mother and has scored four goals in four appearances for their U20 side since they made those attempts to secure him.

The United forward could now be rewarded with a senior debut in the coming weeks, with the World Cup winners set to face Australia and Indonesia in two international friendly matches.

Garnacho has been speaking to the Argentina press ahead of his potential debut, and he took the time to pay tribute to United teammate Martinez for his guidance so far.

"Lisandro is like my dad in Manchester," he told TyC Sports. "He helps me a lot in every way he can. When I do something right, good; when I do something wrong, he tells me that too. He's a top-notch person. He talks to me about the national team and helps me a lot."

"[Lionel] “Scaloni asked me if I’m nervous; he told me to be calm, to play as I know, and he's going to give me an opportunity. When I play, I try to be myself. I am a young boy, but my age does not matter to me. I try to play as I know how. The truth is, everyone here, the teammates, are helping and treating me very good."
