'He’s done it before' - Danny Murphy makes promising point about Harvey Elliott at Liverpool

Danny Murphy has praised Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott and expects him to become a 'terrific player' for the club.

The pundit also drew comparisons with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones and the fact Jurgen Klopp has put his trust in youth before.

The 18-year-old has dramatically risen through the ranks at Anfield following his arrival from Fulham in 2019, aged just 16.

Only injury has prevented Elliott from challenging for a starting spot this season and his return comes as a major boost for the squad.

Murphy, a former Liverpool midfielder himself, has praised the youngster and says he's 'got a maturity about his game'.

“I enjoy watching him play, he’s a creative footballer whose got great technical ability,” he said on talkSPORT.

“Jurgen Klopp threw Trent [Alexander-Arnold] in young, he’s put Curtis Jones in young, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough with Jurgen, there’s no problem with that.

“I think Harvey Elliott has got that maturity about his game which you have to have to be put in the team.

“I’m really excited to see his development because I think he’s one of those players that get’s fans on the edge of their seat because he’s got that silkiness, he can manipulate the ball, he can go past someone, and he’s going to score goals.

“He’s going to be a terrific player, but as I say, he’s done it before [Klopp]."

Last night Elliott became the youngest ever player to start a European Cup or Champions League match for Liverpool, aged 18 years and 318 days.

Alexander-Arnold was the last player to hold the record for the club after he started a match against Spartak Moscow in 2017 when he was just 18 years and 354 days old.
