'He has been unfortunate' - Brendan Rodgers provides Stephen Welsh injury update

Brendan Rodgers has provided an injury update on Celtic defender Stephen Welsh after he suffered a knock against Rangers.

The Scottish champions ran out 2-1 winners against their Glasgow rivals thanks to goals from Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo Furuhashi.

One negative from the fixture was the first half injury to Welsh, who left the pitch after appearing to tweak his shoulder after going to ground.

And Rodgers confirmed the defender will be assessed as soon as possible.

"He has been so unfortunate," he told Sky Sports. "He continually gets a knock and gets injured as his shoulder popped out and we will see how that pans out in the next couple of days.

"Maik Nawrocki hasn't featured much but I was delighted for him and he has come back in and he has had some knocks and been injured and for him to come in and play and contribute.

"I was really pleased for him. Matt O'Riley pushed through it with his nose injury and Greg Taylor had hurt his arm in the last 10 minutes.

"They showed a great spirit and mentality to see the game through."

Rodgers was also keen to highlight Parkhead captain Callum McGregor. The Scotland international put on a dominant showing and the Celtic boss feels the midfielder is on a "different level".

He added: "Callum is a on a different level. I worked with him here the first time and we are very lucky to have someone like him on a different level.

"His view of the game and his composure... he has ended up having to play nearly enough two positions at times.

"He was in that controlling position as he can progress the game forward and then he is up there as an eight due to the runs he can make in that position."
