'Succession' has concluded its run with a bang, winning two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night. The HBO drama took home the awards for best drama series and best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong accepted the award in New York, while the show's writers were present in LA to receive the honor. The winning episode, 'Living+,' was written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.
The WGA Awards, held at the Hollywood Palladium and New York's Edison Ballroom, recognized outstanding achievements in television and film for 2023. Notable winners included Cord Jefferson for adapted screenplay for 'American Fiction,' and the comedy series 'The Bear' on FX.
Other winners included limited series 'Beef' on Netflix, new series 'The Last of Us' on HBO, and comedy/variety talk series 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' on HBO. Netflix's 'I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson' was a surprise winner in the comedy/variety sketch series category.
HBO/Max led with five awards, followed by Netflix with three. Niecy Nash-Betts hosted the LA event, with Hugh Fink and Benn Fleishman overseeing the ceremony. In New York, Josh Gondelman served as host.
Special awards were also presented, with David A. Goodman and Chris Keyser receiving the Morgan Cox Guild Service Award, and Walter Hill honored with the Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement. Linda Bloodworth Thomason and Tony Gilroy were also recognized for their contributions.
The event marked the first WGA Awards following last year's Hollywood strikes, with a focus on equal pay and rights for writers. The winners across various categories showcased the diverse talent and creativity in the industry.
