Passengers boarding the Tyne and Wear Metro are being advised to use Central Station and Monument as Haymarket is exit only.
Currently, only one escalator is working in the station as one is undergoing a complete renewal and the other developed a fault on Sunday night.
The fault on the second escalator became apparent at about 10pm on Sunday evening, shortly after the station was closed due to someone falling on said escalator. However, the two issues are not thought to be connected.

A spokesperson for Nexus said: "Haymarket Metro station was closed for 28 minutes of Sunday evening from around 8.30pm after a customer fell over on the escalator. They didn’t sustain any serious injuries. The escalator was inspected then put back into service."
They continued: "The middle escalator developed a fault on Sunday night. The Third escalator is out of use while it undergoes a complete renewal.
"Customers boarding Metro services in the city centre are advised to use Monument or Central. We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing."
It is not yet known when the fault on the escalator will be repaired and passengers will be able to board trains at Haymarket Station.
